Classes are funded by ACFE and are ongoing programs – enrolments are taken throughout the year. Come and talk to us about learning English and meet the people at Wellsprings!

Concessions

Concessions are available for Commonwealth Healthcare Cardholders, Pensioner Concession Cardholder and Veteran’s Gold Cardholders and their dependants.

Students eligible for the concession rate can attend one or more Learn Local funded classes and only need to pay one class fee.  This applies only to Learn Local  classes. If experiencing extreme financial hardship, students can apply for a special concession or exemption.

Computers for Work and Study


Join this fast paced course if you wish to prepare yourself for work or studies. This intensive course mainly focuses on documentation and presentation skills through Ms Office (Word, Power Point, Excel) and also offers guidelines on how to integrate google tools and social media in everyday life.

General Computers


Are you using computers for the first time? Join our beginners group to learn how to use Microsoft Word, open a website, navigate through a website, and get yourself familiar with computer technology.

English for migrant women – Level 1


This course is designed for participants who can write the alphabet and have a very basic level of English conversation. The course is structured to increase confidence and proficiency in speaking, reading and writing English. Some of the topics covered are filling out forms ,time, family relationships, Australian geography, flora and fauna, health, food, and transport.

English for migrant women – Level 2


This course is structured for participants who can write a simple sentence and participate in a simple, short  conversation. The course is designed to increase ability and confidence in expressing opinions, speaking, reading and writing English. Some of the topics covered are Australian landmarks, celebrations, leisure, and jobs.

English for migrant women – Level 3


The course aims to help learners improve their writing, speaking, listening and reading skills through a treasure trove of fun activities.  Learners are asked to complete an assessment at time of enrolment.

English for Driving Test- Getting Your L’s

The program includes the following:

  • Comprehending the Graduated Licensing System and how to use the Learner’s Log Book. 
  • Online Practice Test.
  • Information on Road Rules Victoria.
  • Correctly answer at least 75% of the Learner’s Test.
  • How to book for Hazard and Driving Test.

Fee Concession: $15

Full Fee: $20.

Making Australia Home (MAH)


MAH is a  program funded by the Department of Social Services and provides action learning experience to women from migrant and refugee backgrounds related to their settlement process in Australia.   It is an engaging and interactive series of workshops which rely on participants’ input and involvement. Guest speakers are invited to some sessions to present on specialised topics.  Topics include but not limited to: accessing services, living in a multicultural society, laws and governance,  parenting in a multicultural country, active citizen participation, advocacy,  cross-cultural communication and support, racism and discrimination, human rights and consumer rights

 The program is available on Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm at Wellsprings in Dandenong.

Making A Difference (MAD- Free program)

The aim of this program is to give effective tools to women from diverse, multicultural backgrounds to navigate the Australian system when faced with an issue, thus providing them with an opportunity to build the following skills:

  • Soft Skills- communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Digital citizenship, E-Advocacy and building a community profile.
  • Meeting with a guest speaker whether it be an MP, a counsellor or a community leader.
  • Preparing and participating in a Media coverage.
  • Understanding the difference between Advocacy and Activism.
  • Coping and dealing with resistance or backlash when standing up for an issue.

Participants are to choose ONE issue per term.

Terms 1 and 4: Program running at 79 Langhorne street, Dandenong. (TUESDAYS from 10am till 12pm).

Terms 2 and 3: Program running at Casey Cardinia Library,  Level 2, meeting room 5.  Bunjil Place, Patrick North East Drive, Narre Warren. (THURSDAYS 10 am till 12pm).

English Conversation


English Conversation helps women who want to improve their spoken English through discussion and activities on a variety of topics in a child friendly environment.

Study assistance for primary and secondary  school children

Enterprising Creative Women Program


Building intercultural connections and enterprising skills through art and small business development”. Enterprising Creative Women is a child friendly program for women seeking to explore and build their enterprising skills and develop a small business idea. It also provides a safe space to explore and workshop issues specific to CALD women through fostering traditional and contemporary craft techniques and building a community voice through the “Craftivism” movement.

Introduction to Community Services


In early 2017, Wellsprings was successful to set up a new pre-accredited program called Introduction to Community Services to address the women’s identified needs of:

  1. Pursuing careers in community services
  2. Having the necessary skills and aptitude to pursue further studies in community services

The course has been designed as a 10-week program which is to be delivered in a range of ways to stimulate the VET system of education. This will include lecture style classes, group activities, a range of formative assessment tasks, guest speakers and excursions/work placements. Please note this program runs in Term II and Term IV only.

Discovering New Careers


A 5-week course discovering new career options for women. Participants will learn to challenge themselves about non-traditional careers such as plumbing, electricians, construction and security, as well as emergency services. Participants will gain an understanding of the myths related to these careers and the benefit they entail.

Sewing Class


Learn to follow simple patterns, repair clothes and practice new stitches. Two classes available on Thursday from 10am to 12pm and 1 pm to 3pm  and one class on Wednesday 4pm to 6pm.

Digital Literacy for Seniors


Do you dread going digital in your everyday chores? Does the invasion of social media disconnect you from socialising with your friends and family? Are you getting the most from your gadgets, tablets or laptops? Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced technology user who wants to go a little bit further, this digital literacy program is for you. Please note this program is not currently happening in 2018.

Homework or Study Support (FREE Program)


Wellsprings offer students in primary and secondary schools the opportunity to get support with their homework or improve their study skills and catch up with the rest of the class if they are falling behind. Classes are on Wednesdays 4pm till 5: 30 pm with Mandy every term. All youth invited, boys and girls. 

Art and Craft Activities for primary school children


In 2018 Wellsprings started a new Program targeting primary school children. The program gives children the opportunity to explore and expand their creative talents by getting involved in a number of activities which build their artistic and social skills. The program runs during school terms only.  It is run in different primary schools each term. It is available in 2019 in terms 1,2 and 3.
